Charlene Alldredge, age 96, of Lubbock, formerly of Floydada, passed away in Lubbock, Texas on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Charlene was born on June 20, 1927, in Floydada, Texas, to Charles and Mamie (Watson) Battey. As a child growing up on the farm, Charlene lived a much different life than we do today. The family had no indoor plumbing or electricity until the 1940s. The windmill pumped up the water and a bucket was used to bring it inside. Washing clothes was done outside in tubs of heated water, hogs from the farm were killed and the hams hung to cure. Eggs and cream were sold in town on Saturdays and of course there were cows to milk and eggs to gather. A life that was lived in the simplest, yet hardest of times.

Charlene graduated from Floydada High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked at Hale’s Department Store for three years. Charlene married Robert Louis Alldredge, the love of her life, on December 26, 1950. Her husband was a teacher and farmer. Farming was a family affair, and it was common for her husband to drive the combine and Charlene to haul the wheat to the elevator. Charlene would bring a hot meal and cool water to her husband and sons each hot summer day of harvest. She gathered from the garden, cooked, and canned. When the work was done, the peas shelled and the beans snapped, the family played card games, board games and Battleship. These are the memories the children have of their childhood and mother. They worked together and played together. She was a hard worker and a strong woman, who gave everything she could for her family.

The First Baptist Church in Floydada was where she faithfully served the Lord. In 2010, she and Bob celebrated 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in May of 2011.

In 2016, she moved to the Isle at Raider Ranch in Lubbock. Charlene loved to play games and enjoyed that fellowship with her friends at Raider Ranch. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed visiting, playing games and spending time with them. She will be forever missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Ila Marie Warren, and her brother, Lewis Clark Battey.

Charlene is survived by her sons, Steven Mack Alldredge (Junette) and Mark Louis Alldredge (Kathy), all of Lubbock, and Roger Kyle Alldredge (Trish) of Visalia, California; one daughter, Karen Beth Klein (Tommy) of Lubbock; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
